OKKK, ok I'm back

/*

So perhaps I suck at this blogging thing. Sorry it’s been a while I've just been dealing with major drama on the home front and though it’s been amusing, it still is somewhat of a pain in the ass. In fact the reason I’m sitting in a random neighborhood at three in the morning writing this is because of that drama…However, I am back now and more productive then ever. As for things that I completed during my hiatus, let’s see, well I replaced all the rubber components of the door and hatch, removed the windows, restored them, restored and oiled all of the window regulators (the thing that moves the window up and down in case you didn’t know), finished the carb rebuild, and also just cleaned the interior a bunch. Now over the past couple weeks nearly all my parts have come in, and at this point the only major thing I’m waiting on is the transmission. I bit the bullet and ordered an Atkins rotary rebuild kit with cryogenically treated seals plus a new koyo race radiator. Unfortunately the Atkins kit comes with Viton oil control rings where I’d much rather have OEM but ah well I’ll just deal. Though that rebuild does add another tedious step, it will pretty much guarantee me a completely new car. What I have for you picture wise are all of the parts that I’ve received not including the radiator and Atkins kit that came today.

Sigh, can't wait
This post was made possible by the “******** home network” for letting me um borrow their wifi (thanks backtrack).

During the midst of the carb rebuild

Front and rear sway bars(driftttttttt)

Everything else
K&n performance air filter, racing beat power pulse muffler, racing oil filter, racing beat air element, bunch of bushings misc tools engine mounts and tranny mount, racing beat road race cat-less header, racing beat pre-silencer, and hawk performance break pads.

In this one from left to right and up to down...engine hoist, 1 ½in wrench, clutch slave and master cylinder, centerforce dual friction clutch, electric fan(makes things much quieter and one can really enjoy that rotary sound), stainless steel oil cooler lines, poly bushings, silicon radiator hoses.
lightened steel flywheel(16lbs from 30!), drilled and slotted race rotors!!, stainless steel fuel lines, front and back performance shocks.

Ze engine hoist ya

Bit of day 3 and day 4

Well shit my hands hurt. I washed them probably 7 times with intense heavy duty hand cleaner or something and they still have areas of black...ah well

Progress progress progress(well sorta) I got all the exhaust system off which was a pain even with a torque wrench. The thermal reactor is still on because there some bolts that are hard to get at. Come to think of it the only things that are currently attached to the motor are the reactor, intake manifold, and transmission. Everything else: air-pump, water-pump, alternator, distributor, etc. is off. At this point there isn't very much I can do. I take that back there is a ton to do there just isn't anything major to do without all the parts here. I really need to get ahold of an engine hoist and a stand, plus the rotary engine adaptor for the stand, as soon as possible. I guess I'll order the adaptor from pineapple racing but I’m concerned it won’t get here for a while and time is an issue. Actually I'm just really impatient and hate the fwd automatic toyota/lexus *cough*junk*cough* that I'm in now. Also I can’t do anything else substantial without them, primarily clean the engine and engine bay, followed by painting.
So cleaning wise I did the wheels and buffed the edges so they shine quite a bit now and look much better. Ill post before and after pictures

I'm planning to do the carb rebuild tomorrow depending on how much time I've got and then just clean parts after that. Speaking of cleaning, I want to recommend a product that is simply ridiculous its so good. I found it through one of my friend's step-dad and then bought some of my own because I liked it so much. We all call it purple cleaner but the retail name is black scorpion or something. Anyway it's just a really strong base cleaner that just dissolves away pretty much anything(depending on how watered down the purple cleaner is).
Yea theres a pretty substantially sizrd sized chip in the picture....(how bad is it acutally and do i have to replace something??)  Also am i missing something when it comes to taking off the pulleys? I have tried soo hard but to no avial.

Parts im trashing...

The good old nikki :)

And heres what i polished;)

Ok im exhausted and subsequently am not responsable for any mess ups and what not...

Day 2

Alright. So today I got a little more done. I removed the starter motor, a few pipes, and the hardest part...all the bolts that connect the engine to the tranny. Oh and funny thing, I found out the reason the car wouldn't move(or one of them at least). When I pulled the starter out, the crumb remnants of my clutch came with it.
Clutch pieces...right?

What I pulled off today(plus all the bolts)

Day 1

OK. So I started stripping the engine bay following the 1980 fsm. I took some photos of what I had done which wasn't alot but it was something. Oh, and I have to apologize; for some reason when the pictures import to the computer the saturation gets messed up so they look a bit weird. Anyway heres what i did...

Could anyone tell me what exactly these couplers are? Right below the brake master cylinder...

...and this one

Everything I took out that day...

Condenser for the oil level sensor right? Well it was broken...
Ok thats all for today thanks.

Update on parts

Just got an email from racing beat saying that the spring set that came in the suspension package is out of stock and will be back in stock in about 10 weeks. Ah well maybe I'll see if I get them to only charge me for the sway bars and then get the springs from somewhere else

The rundown

So I've had this old 1980 rx7 sitting in my driveway for the past year or so. In most respects it’s in excellent condition, hardly any rust, relatively low mile, very vintage looking, and even black. Whether its in running condition is debatable. It could use just about new everything; unsurprising considering the past 30 years of wear and tare. Being the avid rotary engine fan I am, I decided to finally get off my ass and restore it bumper to bumper(don’t hold me to that though) so that it can be something of a daily driver.

Anyway, parts cost money as most things tend to and quite a bit at that. Of course having a negligible income coupled with constant parental naggings of "You should SAVE your money!" would have squashed any "big spender" attitude right then and there. But then why would I be here at three in the morning starting this blog? That’s right, I was moping in front of the computer with my $5000 dream online shopping cart from mazdatrix.com when I thought of the feeling of being behind the wheel of an FB and of the sensation of going sideways in one. Thoughts of fiscal responsibility quickly vanished as I hit the “checkout” button.

The point however, is that I have decided to blog the restoration process in the hopes that it will not only be a possible resource for others but mainly be an aid to me. Ill start with the first batch of pictures, along with all the specs, parts I ordered, and general mechanical goodness tomorrow. It’s late.
